In 1990 some of Britain's leading business, personnel, professional and employee organisations got together. The aim was to create a national standard for good practice in the training and development of people to meet business goals.
What was produced was a framework that companies of all shapes and sizes could use to accelerate their business growth. That framework is known today as the Investors in People Standard.

However, your business is unlike any other. What the Standard gives you is a basic structure to think around. You won't be forced to approach training or planning in a set or predetermined way. Instead we'll work with you to find a plan of action that best directs your organisation towards business success.
The Standard was developed by the National Training Task Force in partnership with organisations such as the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
Businesses large and small, representing all sector's of the UK economy have been involved. Almost 30,000 organisations across the UK are recognised as an Investor in People. Organisations with two or more people, including partnerships, are eligible for the
Investors In People Standard.
