Buying Cars Online
Disadvantages of Buying OnlineDespite the apparent convenience and cost-effectiveness of buying online, there is some scepticism amongst observers in the motor industry:
- Many dotcom companies in all industries have failed this year
- Long delivery delays have given some web sites a bad name
- You can't test drive a car you find on the Internet.
- You can't get under the bonnet of a second hand car - you have to trust your Internet dealer
- Independently imported cars currently fetch less money when sold than cars bought through UK franchised dealers
- You may be pressurised to take out finance deals, warranties, service contracts and breakdown cover. These could eat into the saving you made on the car purchase.
- Some of the most popular sites can be difficult to access
