Importing Cars
Buying your Car
The procedure once you have decided on your car is as follows:
- Pay the deposit by credit card if possible for additional protection. Some dealers may insist on a wire transfer or banker's draft in local currency
Obtain written confirmation of all agreements and financial transactions
- Ask the dealer to arrange temporary export or transit plates (these include insurance - basic 3rd party cover only)
- Inform your insurance company of the purchase and obtain a Green Card for fully comprehensive cover whilst in transit
- Agree your method of payment with the dealer - either make a wire transfer for the balance (may take some days to clear) or pay by UK foreign currency banker's draft upon collection.
- Keep all foreign receipts and tickets
