Employers Encouraged to Get Involved in Work Wise Week

Employers are invited to benefit from flexible working practices with the return of this year’s Work Wise Week 15-21 May.

“Work Wise Week is a chance for hard-working, open-minded people to demonstrate that they can be more productive without the stress induced by the workplace environment,” said Phil Flaxton, chief executive of the event’s organiser Work Wise UK. 

Events during the week will cover all aspects of smarter working practices, including encouraging staff to cancel all face-to-face meetings and conduct them by conference call instead, and asking shift workers to roster their own shifts.

The week’s first initiative, National Work From Home Day, takes place on 15 May and aims to show employers that a day home working can be as productive as a day in the office.

“With the long commute many have to endure, people can be even more productive by occasionally working from home,” Flaxton explained. 

The week will end with the Work Wise Summit 2008 held at the QEII Conference in Westminster on 21 May.

Work Wise Week is supported by the British Chambers of Commerce, BT, the Confederation of British Industry, Trades Union Congress and Transport for London.

Work Wise UK wants half of UK employees working flexibly by the end of its campaign programme in 2011.
