UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) has doubled the number of grants available to small businesses wishing to exhibit at overseas trade shows or conferences.
From April 1st 2009, under the UKTI Tradeshow Access Programme (TAP), businesses will be entitled to apply for up to six grants, rather than the previous three, as long as they visit trade shows in at least two different markets.
Available grants rates range from £1,000 to £1,800, and funds can be used to cover exhibition space and stand costs. To be eligible, firms must be based in the UK and have fewer than 250 employees.
“In difficult times, businesses need to be flexible and seek out opportunities,” said minister for trade and investment, Gareth Thomas.
“These new rules give small businesses more opportunities to access foreign markets and enable them to attend follow-up trade fairs in markets where they see potential for their business,” he added. “The TAP programme supports over 3,000 UK businesses each year.”
To apply, firms should contact their regional UKTI International Trade Team or their industry’s accredited trade association. Applications should be made at least eight weeks before the event is due to take place.
Previous funding made before 1st April will not be taken into account, meaning that businesses which have previously benefited from the TAP scheme will be eligible to apply for a further six grants.
Forthcoming trade shows include the Dubai International Boat Show, the BUILD Expo in India and the International Travel Show in Warsaw.
